Great advice on uplighting, thanks
The American DJ Par …
The American DJ Par 64 Pro is a great light. It does so much! I usually put 2 of them in fade mode aimed at the ceiling / upper walls during slow dances, dinner, etc. for a little mood. I would agree w/ the comments about the diffuser though. You could probably even make your own, if you knew what you were doing. I just dropped a (very) few dollars on eBay to buy a few diffusion panels for them, & I’m so glad I did–hot spots gone.
cool video. thanks …

any plans to do a video on wireless uplighting???

Great comment! I …
Great comment! I was introduced to thoes at NAMM and need to get some kind of video up on them asap.
From what I understand, you can also spread the beam angle out a bit with thoes
Hey Brian, didn’t …
Hey Brian, didn’t look thru all the comments so I’m not sure if this has been brought up, but… have you ever considered putting a diffusion filter on your par cans? It’ll soften up that ‘hot-spot’ very nicely. I know some vendors are selling plexi-glass versions that fit right in the ‘gel’ slots for only $5…. A pretty inexpensive option for people who can’t afford to buy 10 different lights!
Brian, i thought …
Brian, i thought this video was very helpful. Thanks man! You rock. You are a dj’s dj!
that’s pretty …
that’s pretty annoying, all light effects will come out better with fog …
Yes, probably. …
Yes, probably. Judging from some of the giant mobile systems I’ve seen from your part of the world, you are also probably making more money per gig than we are over here.
I’d gladly build a giant PA and concert style cage truss system if I could get the clientel in my part of the country to pay for something like that. However, most work is for smaller venues at smaller rates.
It has to do with …
It has to do with fire alarms and strict fire codes. It seems that when there is an inconsistancy in the air, even if it is not smoke from a fire, the fire alarms can go off.
Yes, one COULD turn off the fire alarms while fog is being used, but then this would go against the strict building and fire codes. So it’s very seldom that many of us here are able to use Fog. Even Haze has been banned from most halls
then the people in …
then the people in america are very less demanding than they are here…
wierd
how do you mean , …
how do you mean , its becoming impossible to use fog ?
You are right. When …
You are right. When using multiple effects, it’s often more appealing if you use several of the same effect.
Thing is, the trend here is “Less Is More”. My clients, as of the last year or so are shying away from the “Nightclub” light show experience and going for a more subtle minimalistic, inconspicuous yet functional light show.
So, one of each effect light is usually all I need. I did use 2 of the Revo Sweeps at my last gig and they worked really nice. Got complements too!
IF you have …
IF you have somethign against them, then don’t use them by all means.
You should probably know that here in the states, it’s becoming next to impossible to use Fog. This means that many of the great lighting effects like scanners and moving heads are now not producing the desired effect one would expect. Therefore, alternatives must be used. If used propperly, they can produce a really nice effect that, yes, my CLIENTS complement me on.
ok then , sorry if …
ok then , sorry if i was rude to you in your eyes..
But. there are way more cooler effects that you can use, that also are ”cheap” and will do well…
another thing you can do is : not buying a lot of different effects like a mystic , a quad gem , etc.. but buy 2 or 4 of 1 type , that will look better than just some different lights trown together
you are totally …
you are totally going off-topic.. i have got nothing against led pars , but i do got something against those effects like the adj mystic led , etc..
So, in conclusion, …
So, in conclusion, not only are these effects not “Crappy” or “Cheap”, but they have actually helped my business “Grow” and I have made “Money” using these effects.
As far as being careful with my words, the reason I was not so careful with my words is to point out how rude your words sounded to the rest of us. I think you have, or hope so anyway.
Next time you make statements so “Matter-Of-Fact”, make sure you are RIGHT before making them.
I have seen some …
I have seen some VERY impressive DJ systems from your part of the world. It seems when it comes to Mobile DJing, Belgium is doing some very impressive things.
However, most of the world is not going to be able to make a profit with giant systems like some I have seen from Belgium. We’re doing things on a smaller scale and making a nice profit.
I understand this. Now, I thought I would point it out to you in hopes you can understand as well.
There are 5 reasons …
There are 5 reasons off the top of my head why LED works very well for DJs like myself.
Reasons 1, 2, 3, and 4 can be used for selling points when we are consulting with a client.
Why have I singled out Belgium as the rude ones? Because it seems that most rude commets COME FROM DJs from Belgium. I don’t hate the Dutch, but the Dutch seem to think that the ONLY way to do things is the Dutch way and everyone else’s way is “Useless”.
3 . Low heat also …
3 . Low heat also means, when this type of lighting is on the floor, the chance of children, or anyone really of accedently touching one of these fixtures and burning themselves is eliminated.
4. One LED par can can be any color in the rainbow without switching out gels, so this reduces the ammount of cans we actually need for simple stage lighting
5. There are no bulbs to replace. Most Diods are good for 50,000 to 100,000 hours. This is cost effective for Mobile DJs
